  2. Old Town Library is a family owned library. It opened to the public in 1988. Ten years later in August of 99, the library had become so well known and profitable after having grossed over $450,000 in memberships and donations that the city was interested in turning the privately owned library into a premier city library. With a current inventory of just over 50,000 books, each was categorized and labeled using the Dewey Decimal System. People would come and go and loved the old world charm the library had to offer.  However, the outside world was changing rapidly. Technology needed to infiltrate the library to accommodate more patrons. The opportunity for the city to expand the facility was agreed upon as long as it remained a landmark for the city. 3. The upgrading and implementation of new equipment, online services, and the expansion of the library was the first phase of the newly acquired library. The elimination of the old catalog system was necessary and a more sophisticated yet easier to use system needed to be installed. The new online catalog system would allow the patron to reserve books online from home or reserve books to check out from home. This new system will allow for easier management of client accounts by the library staff. They will be able to access over due book records, damaged book inventories, and monitor the scheduled pick up dates for online books. The newly integrated databases will house the system patron list, inventory catalog, online reservations, etc. This will allow the library patron to reserve traditional books for later pickup, as well as “check-out” e-books online by downloading them to their home computer. To accomplish all the new requirements there will be a number of new additions to the systems and instructions to go along with them. Project Summary Old Town Library
