History • Little town on the western coast of Estonia • 100 km from capital Tallinn • Becoming an official town in 1279 (731 years old) • Narrow streets, wooden houses, not changed much from the beginning of 20-th century • Well-known for centuries (curative mud, fresh air, warm seawater, eventful summer)

  3. Facts about town • Population 11 593 • Area 10,6 km2 • Built on a stripof land that was formed of many islets • All streets bring you to the sea again and again • Called the Nordic Venice • Lots of famous sightseeings

  4. The Episcopal castle of Haapsalu • The Dome Church of St. Nicholas • Important historical and cultural monument • The biggest single naved church in the Baltic states • Watch Tower • 13 th century museum

  5. Courtyard • Children`s playground • Different cultural events: (festivals, concerts, exhibitions)

  6. White Lady • A legend - love story between young lady and a monk • Access of women to the Episcopal Castle was forbidden by threat of death • As a punishment she was entombed in the wall of the chapel • White Lady appears in the chapel`s window • Once a year at full moon nights in every August

  7. Big Promenade • Until WW II centre of summer life of Haapsalu • Starts from a beach • Flows into Chocolate Promenade

  8. The wooden-laced Resort Hall • Completed in 1898 on Promenade • Unique house • Restaurant • A lot of entertainment

  9. Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Bench • Chocolate Promenade ends at Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Bench • Composer`s favorite place in summer 1867 • Estonian folk tune “Kallis Mari” in famous VI th syphony • A piano work cycle “Memories from Haapsalu”

  10. Railway station • Completed in 1907 • Built for the Emperor`s family • Covered platform 216 m long • At present – Estonian Railway Museum

  11. My schoolHaapsalu Linna Algkool • Elementary school (6-classes) • Established in 1937 • 218 pupils and 27 teachers today • Our school`s mascot - yellow duck
