Sergeant First Class Nelson Gamio PSD/CBRN Reconnaissance Platoon Sergeant A native of Los Angeles, California, SFC Gamio entered the United States Army on 6 October 1995, attending One Station Unit Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama as a Chemical Operations Specialist. Follow on assignments include: Smoke/Decon Specialist, 71st Chemical Company, 25th Infantry Division, Hawaii; CBRN Room NCO/Operations Sergeant, HQ&A Company, 25th Infantry Division, Hawaii; Squad Leader, 92nd Chemical Company, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart; Division CBRN Logistics NCO/Computer Plotter, Division Chemical, 2nd Infantry Division, Korea; CBRN Room Instructor, Decontamination Chief Instructor/Writer, HHC, 84th Chemical Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood; Platoon Sergeant, 4th Chemical Company, 2nd Infantry Division; Chemical Operations NCO, HHC, Eighth United States Army, Korea. SFC Gamio is currently assigned to HHC, 4-1 BSTB, 1st Infantry Division as Personal Security Detachment/Chemical Reconnaissance Platoon Sergeant. SFC Gamio completed the following courses: One Station Unit Training; Warrior Leaders Course; Basic Non Commissioned Officer Course; Advanced Non Commissioned Officer Course; Air Assault Course; Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Course; Physical Readiness Training Leaders Course; Defense Hazardous Materials/Waste Handlers Course; Field Sanitation Course; Drop Zone Team Leader Course; Combat Lifesaver Course; Radiation Safety Course; Instructor Training Course and Advanced Platform Instruction; Instructor Supervisor Course. SFC Gamio holds an Associates Degree in General Studies and is currently pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Management. Awards include: Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (4th Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (7th Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), National Defense Service Medal (Bronze Service Star), Korean Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 5), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Driver’s Badge, German Armed Forces Military Efficiency Badge (Bronze), and the coveted Air Assault Badge. SFC Gamio has received several non-traditional awards: The Chemical Corps Honorable Order of the Dragon; Master Instructor Badge; Instructor of the Cycle. Of all the awards and recognitions above, the one SFC Gamio holds the closest, is his membership in the elite Non Commissioned Officer Corps association – Sergeant Audie Murphy Club (SAMC), earning membership in 2002. SFC Gamio is married to CPT Yadira Manzueta Gamio, who is currently serving as the 1st Brigade Chemical Officer, and has a son, Andres (1 yr), and a daughter Aaliyah (12 yrs).
