  3. We have a healthy club!Why do we need to do a membership drive? • Simple Answer: To stay healthy Members are the strongest asset of Kiwanis. Nothing can be accomplished without members. Thus the underlying purpose of all club actions must be to develop membership.

Member Involvement • Informing those members not present today • Suggested Contents of letter • We are forming teams to recruit new members into our club. • We would love to have you on our team. • Every member can play a part in membership recruitment regardless of their level of involvement in other projects. • Someone from our team will be contacting you in the next few days to let you know when we will be meeting. • Keep in mind that there are ways other than recruiting in which you can contribute to your team. • I have enclosed some information provided during the membership drive program. • I’m sure you will have many questions which I will be happy to answer. • Thanks in advance for your time and consideration

Kiwanis International25% Growth Initiative • TL’s have a copy of this Initiative • Rebate of International Dues to the club for the # of new members if the 25% goal is maintained to the end of the Kiwanis year. • Our Members prior to Sept 30th;80 • Our Membership quota for this initiative will be 100 members. • Importance of date of Sept 30th

  10. Easy as 1-2-3 • Beginning July 1, 2006, and running through June 1, 2007: Recruit 1 new member and receive a bronze key lapel pin and one (1) entry in the random drawing. Recruit 2 new members and receive a silver key lapel pin and an additional entry in the random drawing for a total of two (2) entries. Recruit 3 new members and receive a gold key lapel pin and a total of three (3) entries in the contest. • 1st Place (2 winners) Trip to the 2008 Kiwanis International Convention (Hotel, airfare and registration) • 2nd Place (1 winner) Spend the day at the home of the 2006-07 International President • 3rd Place (1 winner ) Spend the day at the International Office with the Executive Director in Indianapolis, Indiana • 4th Place (1 winner) Kiwanis International Life Membership • 5th Place (50 winners) US$100 gift card to the Kiwanis Store • 6th Place (100 winners) US$25 gift card to the Kiwanis Store

Recruiting Members The People You Don’t Know Chamber of commerce list Dun and Bradstreet zip code list Parent’s of sponsored youth groups Company personnel promotions People who live in town but work in neighboring areas People who are new to the community Representatives of official service agencies Replacement members from companies that once sponsored members but no longer do because of transfers or retirements Referrals from neighboring Kiwanis clubs

  16. Recruitment The Mailing Package to be mailed to prospect 1) Letter – Attractive, crisp and personal. No mailing labels, metered stamps or “dear friend” salutations. If using a form letter make it original. 2) “Serving the Children” brochure 3) Club brochure – Hand written notes in the margins 4) List of current members and their profession

Recruitment The Visit Suggestions for your initial contact 1) Contact 1 week after mailing 2) Pairing – Always pair up; exceptions? 3) Have a copy of the letter you sent. 4) Have work related business cards to use as an introduction. 5) During the meeting explain Kiwanis and the membership development effort. 6) Present the “Changing Tomorrows Today” brochure 7) If not included in the mailing, present the list of the clubs current members.

  18. Recruitment Benefit Marketing Aproach • Make prospect aware of the benefits of membership. • Personalized. Review the prospective member’s profile. • Identify the prospect’s skills, family interests, recreational interests and general preferences. • When meeting the prospect face to face look around the room at pictures, plaques, etc. These are clues to relate specific benefits to membership. • Once the prospect can relate these benefits to their personal and professional needs, the member will seriously consider membership. • Traditionally recruiting involved letting the prospect know that they need to give back to the community. But for someone who’s schedule is already overcrowded what they look for is the benefit. • This is not to say that we don’t emphasize that we are a service club in need of a few good Kiwanians.

  19. I’m too Busy“Denial”“Unsuccessful Recruting” Prepare your replies in advance to the negative comments you expect that you may receive. Worst thing you can do is go in to a recruiting session assuming a negative response. If you do you will most likely get what you expected. Always end a negative session with a positive comment and let them know that you hope they will keep our club in mind in the future. Situations do change and you still may be talking to a future Kiwanian.

  20. Club Recognition Diamond Growth This award is earned by clubs that add approximately one-third of their starting membership during the course of the year. The quota for clubs with members as of October 1st of 71-80 is 24 For clubs with 81-90 the quota is 27. Sunburst Achievement Clubs that meet the Diamond Growth criteria by June 1st

Membership Drive AWARDS/PRIZES KIWANIANS who recruit one new member 1) Ring of Honor 2) For each new member recruited the sponsoring Kiwanian will receive 1 entry into a drawing which will occur after the end of the Kiwanis Year, which is September 30th. The Winner will receive 1 Free Year of Kiwanis International Dues

Membership Drive AWARDS/PRIZES KIWANIANS who recruit 3-4 new members Achieve Pin Easy 1-2-3 Entry Dinner for 2 at a local restaurant KIWANIANS who recruit 5-6 new members Ruby K Pin $50 Gift Certificate KIWANIANS who recruit 7-9 new members Pair of Tickets to a show at the Verne Riffe Center KIWANIANS who recruit 10 or more new members Pair of Tickets to a Dinner & Show at the Funny Bone Comedy Club Also to include 1 night Hotel accommodations at the Raddison Hotel.
