  2. Q: How should we love the Lord realistically according to the Bible?

  3. Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied: “'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'" ref Deut. 6:5

  4. Matthew 10:37“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.”

  5. Q: How do you love someone who is invisible? ref Deut. 6:5

  6. Matthew 7 :21-23 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my father who is in Heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ And I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me!’”

  7. Luke 13:23-25Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”

  8. Luke 13:23-25 continuedHe said to them, “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’  “But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’

  9. After 10 days together…

  10. 100 days later…

  11. A few years later…

  12. To Love the Lord you Must Get to Know Him.

  13. How well do we know Jesus?Q: Did Jesus, who is the image of perfection, ever lose his temper and curse anyone? Jesus always kept his cool. Jesus got upset and wasn't afraid to express his frustration. Jesus got upset, angry, and cursed others.

  14. Matthew 23:27 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness...“You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?

  15. Jesus asks, "I am coming for my brides. Are YOU my bride yet?"

  16. Eph 5:31-32"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.

  17. Isaiah 62:5As a young man marries a young woman,   so will your Builder marry you; as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride,   so will your God rejoice over you.Jeremiah 2:2“Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem:  “This is what the LORD says:  “‘I remember the devotion of your youth,   how as a bride you loved me and followed me through the wilderness,   through a land not sown.

  18. The prophets compared us to a bride who has broken her love.Ezekial 16:7-8 You grew up and developed and became the most beautiful of jewels. Your breasts were formed and your hair grew, you who were naked and bare. Later I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that you were old enough for love, I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your nakedness. I gave you my solemn oath and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Sovereign Lord, and you became mine."Jeremiah 13:22"And if you ask yourself, 'Why has this happened to me?'--it is because of your many sins that your skirts have been torn off and your body mistreated. ... 25-27because you have forgotten me and trusted in false gods. I will pull up your skirts over your face that your shame may be seen--your adulteries and lustful neighings, your shameless prostitution! I have seen your detestable acts on the hills and in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will you be unclean?"

  19. 2,000 years ago, Jesus also expressed disappointment with the way He was received. Matthew 25:1-13“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

  20. Continued“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’  “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

  21. Continued“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.“Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’“But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

  22. If the Lord were to return today, Are you prepared?

  23. What do we need to prepare? What is most important to God?

  24. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

  25. 1 Corinthians 13:13 In the end these three things remain, faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.

  26. 1 John 4:7-8Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God, whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
