SHRM Affiliation Requirements SHRM Chapter Membership Requirements as of January 1, 2012 By December 31, 2016 25 SHRM members and51% of total membership must be SHRM members 3.5 years to meet the requirements • 450 chapters are already there! • 60 chapters need to get to 51% affiliation • 48 chapters need to get to 25 SHRM members • 26 chapters need to do both (the Fortune Forty Team!)

  4. Start at Home! Current and Past Members Make them your Partners Survey them by any means Where they belong Who they buy from What do they read Who do they talk to What do they want from the chapter Call them to Action The Strategy

Announce in a meeting the need for help Survey by email or in meeting handout Use simple questions, give them room to write long or detailed answers Review and group the responses Share the results with the Chapter Ask them to identify the people Challenge them to invite and make it FUN! Put it to Work

  6. Get with the Groups Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Better Business Social Groups Eagles Kiwanis Rotary Other Training / Business Groups The Strategy

Get with the Groups Find your local groups (MORE is BETTER) Past experience or internet search Survey results from members Call or get introduced Align your purposes Ask about the group: purpose, meetings, etc. Share the purpose of your chapter Determine how you can work together Be CREATIVE!!! Put it to Work

  8. Take it on the Road Change when and where you meet Change the program type Identify potential markets The 15 and 30 mile circle Find the mid-point Meetings for 2 groups Quarterly Rotation Partner with another SHRM Chapter Strategy

  9. Take it on the Road Start by asking for input Chapter Board Chapter Members Do something simple and inexpensive Introductory Social Networking Event Co-Branded with another group Have a Universal Topic Commit to trying it more than once Put it to Work

  10. Pump up the Programs The Most Important Benefit! Partnerships through the State Council Offer Combined Meetings Chamber, et al ASTD (Competitor) Other Social Groups Local Government (Business Builder) Chapter Seminar or Workshop The Strategy

  11. Pump up the Programs Review what your members want Select programs that will get Certified Do other chapters have recommendations What do other organizations need: Basics in HR Leadership / People Management Communication Skills Larger meetings can draw more exposure Put it to Work
