  2. NEW TECHNICALS OFFER • WHAT WILL BE COVERED? • Progression routes • Design Principles • Qualifications • Content • Assessment • Grading • UCAS

  3. OVERVIEW OF CONTENT • The Level 2 Technical Award must provide depth of study. • It is approved for use and will provide learners with an awareness of the engineering sector rather that giving them a pathway into a particular job outcome. • First teaching planned for September 2016. • Scheme number 1145-20.

  4. ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW • Synoptic assignment • This is externally set, internally marked and externally moderated. • Once again a sample is available on the webpage. • Covers all qualification content • External exam • This is externally set and externally marked. • The pass mark is not published. • Sample exam in documents tab on the webpage. • Samples from all qualification content.

  5. OVERVIEW OF CONTENT – LEVEL 2 TECHNICAL CERTIFICATES (1145-21) • The Level 2 Technical Certificates will replace the Level 2 2850 suite of qualifications for Full-Time learners (KS5). • Where possible aligned to new Apprenticeship standards • First teaching planned for September 2017. • There are four pathways. Each has the same three generic units nominally 60 GLH. Each pathway will be 360 GLH.

  6. OVERVIEW OF CONTENT – FABRICATION AND WELDING PATHWAY • These are the units for the Fabrication and Welding pathway.

  7. OVERVIEW OF CONTENT – MAINTENENCE PATHWAY • These are the units for the Maintenance pathway.

  8. OVERVIEW OF CONTENT – MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES PATHWAY • These are the units for the Manufacturing Technologies pathway.

  9. OVERVIEW OF CONTENT –ELECTRONIC PATHWAY • These are the units for the Electronic pathway

  10. ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW • Synoptic assignment • This is externally set, internally marked and externally moderated. • Covers all qualification content • External exam • This is externally set and externally marked. • The pass mark is not published. • Samples from all qualification content.

  11. OVERVIEW OF CONTENT –KS5 LEVEL 3 TECHNICALS • The qualification has UCAS points, has potential to be delivered as one or two year programmes. • 720 size now included in MME pathway of the Level 3 Engineering Manufacture SASE/W framework.

  12. OVERVIEW OF CONTENT –KS5 LEVEL 3 • The remainder of the mandatory units. • The first six we listed can form the 360 GLH sized qualification as they are all 60 GLH. • The 540 and 720 GLH sized qualifications have additional mandatory units.

  13. OVERVIEW OF CONTENT –KS5 LEVEL 3 TECHNICALS • Then we have the optional units. One can be chosen when completing the 540 GLH sized qualification and two when choosing the 720 GLH sized qualification. • There are six sectors to choose from plus a project management unit.

  14. ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW • Synoptic assignment • This is externally set, internally marked and externally moderated. • Covers all mandatory qualification content • Options assignment • This is externally set, internally marked and externally moderated. • External exam • This is externally set and externally marked. • The pass mark is not published. • 030 covers 301 – 306 • 032 covers 307 and 308

  15. SUPPORT FOR DELIVERY • Schemes of work containing reading lists and suggested resources • Sample delivery plans showing how a programme of study can be built • Sample examinations and synoptic assignments which can be used as mock assessment
