This award was for "Meet the Igwe's", a short film he directed. Chekwube is also the lead animator and story architect of Africa’s first 2D feature film. Besides his artistic pursuit, he is passionate about building Africa’s animation industry, and has worked with Magic Carpet to train over 100 animators in five years. Chekwube sees art in everything. Growing up, he was introduced to art through comics, films, and African literature. To him, they were rich in an imposing way, and he marvelled at the scale of magic in human imagination. He believes that art isn’t just what we create—it is a way of thinking. Art integrates and interrogates, it instigates the activists, disrupts our indifference, and awakens the souls.
