TEACHNJ Regulations Proposal • Two Terms that are very important to know: SGO – Student Growth Objective(Created in District) SGP – Student Growth Percentile(Calculated by the State)
Teacher EvaluationCalculating Student Growth Percentiles • Student Growth Percentiles (SGP) measure how much a student has learned from one year to the next compared to peers with similar academic history from across the state. • Students scored on a scale from 1 – 99. • Growth baseline established by student’s prior learning as measured by all of student’s NJ ASK results.
Student Growth Objectives • SGOs are annual, specific, and measurable academic goals based on growth and achievement for groups of students. • Establishing an SGO is collaborative process between teacher and supervisor with the principal having final decision. • SGOs may be based on appropriate national, state, or LEA-developed assessments, including rubric measured portfolios.
Student Growth Objective • Teachers who teach 4th-8th grade Language Arts or Math will receive an (SGP) score from the state and will set a minimum of 1 (SGO). • All other teachers without an (SGP) score will set a minimum of 2 (SGOs)
Teacher Evaluation • The TEACHNJ Act requires evaluations to include multiple measures of student progress and multiple data sources. • New teacher evaluation systems will include the following components:
APR/PGP • SGOs will be identified in each teachers APR/PGP. • This year administration will be putting in the following generic statement until the regulations are adopted and we have concrete information. “For the 2013 - 2014 school year, Student Growth Objective(s) will be set in accordance with TEACHNJ regulations and be linked to my PGP.”
