  1. The use of sodium chloride Sodium chloride (NaCl), also known as table salt, is an essential compound for human body. It is widely used in cooking and food industry. In addition, it has other household and industrial uses, such as the manufacture of cleaning solutions. In medicine, sodium chloride is used in different forms, such as injections, solutions and drops. Salt is vital to the body's function, but too much or too little salt can lead to health problems. Salt is an inorganic compound (not from living substances). It is composed of sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl). Sodium is different from salt. Sodium is a natural mineral found in fruits, vegetables and other foods. Sodium is necessary for human body, and a large part of sodium in diet is obtained from salt. The main functions of sodium chloride in human body are: ·Maintain blood pressure ·Maintain fluid balance ·Neurosignal transmission ·Muscle contraction and relaxation How is sodium chloride used in medical treatment? Sodium chloride is mixed with water to form a saline solution, which has several medical uses. The medical uses of normal saline include: ·Intravenous injection (intravenous drip): 0.9% concentration of normal saline can be used for intravenous injection or intravenous injection to treat dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. It can also be mixed with glucose. ·Saline flushing: Flush, clean and remove any blockage after administration through the injection catheter and intravenous. ·Nasal wash/irrigation and nasal sprays or drops: used to clean the nose to remove mucus, crusts, debris and bacteria. It is often used to relieve nasal congestion and to remove blood clots, mucus, debris and bacteria from the nose after surgery. ·Ear washing/irrigation: used to clean the ear and remove any feces, debris, foreign matter or earwax. ·Eye wash/irrigation, eye drops: used to wash/rinse eyes and remove debris. Eye drops can be

  2. used to reduce redness, swelling, tears, discomfort and keep eyes moist. ·Wound cleaning: used to clean wounds. ·Inhalation of sodium chloride: it helps to form mucus and cough more easily. This is especially effective for dry and painful coughs. There are over-the-counter normal saline drops and solutions. In addition, the use of other forms of normal saline requires the consultation of doctors. Different types of brine solutions contain different proportions of sodium chloride and water. People can consult doctors about what is appropriate according to the purpose of use. Other uses of sodium chloride: The most common use of salt is in food. Its uses include: ·Food flavoring ·Natural preservatives ·Helps to enhance the natural color of food ·Preserved or preserved meat ·Pickled food ·Clean pots and pans ·Prevent mold formation ·Remove dirt and grease ·Sprinkle salt on roads in winter to prevent or melt ice How much salt should you eat? 40% of sodium is necessary for human body. It comes from salt. The American Dietary Guidelines suggest that the daily intake of sodium should be less than 2300 mg, so the daily intake of salt should be less than 5 g. People tend to consume an excessive amount of salt, about 9 to 12 grams a day, through pickles, French fries and baked goods. The intake of sodium and salt can be limited by eating unprocessed food and eating household dishes. Doctors may advise some people to take a low sodium diet according to their physical conditions. What happens if you eat too much salt? Although salt is vital to the body, consuming too much salt can lead to:

  3. ·Hypertension ·Increased risk of heart, kidney and other organ diseases ·Edema (increased water retention in the body, leading to body swelling) ·Dehydration ·Dry and rough skin
