  4. Three Types of Behavior PASSIVE: • Says nothing about the situation even though it’s upsetting • Others control the situation • Rights and wishes are denied to satisfy someone else • VICTIM!

  5. Three Types of Behavior AGGRESSIVE: • Verbally attacks people • Expresses anger, blame, and resentment • Tries to dominate others and get their own way at the expense of others

  6. Three Types of Behavior ASSERTIVE: Expresses what you feel or want in a straight-forward, courteous manner

  7. COMMUNICATION “the key to relationships”

  8. VERBAL BEHAVIOR You express the message clearly

  9. NON-VERBAL BEHAVIOR You communicate through actions *non-verbal behavior can sometimes conflict with the intended message

  10. ACTIVE LISTENING You concentrate on what is being said

  11. FEEDBACK The response the listener gives about the message

  12. EMPATHY You try to understand how the person is feeling by imagining you’re in their place

  13. MESSAGES I-Messages: Positive You-Messages: Negative Mixed Messages: Gives out two different meanings

  14. ANGER TRIGGER Thoughts or events that cause anger

  15. PROJECTION & DISPLACEMENT Blaming others for actions for which THEY are responsible or are the cause
