  2. Content • Introduction • Diagram • Functions • Disorders and diseases • Top 5 ways to keep healthy

  3. The endocrine system is made up of glands that produce hormones and release them into the blood. The hormones cause certain reactions to occur in specific tissues. The endocrine system affects a large number of the body’s functions, including temperature, sexual function, reproduction, moods, and growth and development. Introduction

  5. The pituitary: The pituitary gland controls the functions of several other endocrine glands. It’s not very big, only about the size of a pea. The pituitary gland is located at the base of the brain. Functions of the Endocrine system:

  6. The thyroid gland is located in part of the neck. It helps regulate the body’s metabolism (how the body gets energy from food) and blood-calcium levels. The thyroid gland

  7. Part of the pancreas makes digestive enzymes, but another part makes insulin, which is a hormone that helps regulate carbohydrate metabolism and fat storage. It’s secreted after a person consumes starches or sugars. The pancreas

  8. Disorders and diseases • Type 1 diabetes • Thyroid cancer • Growth Hormone Deficiency

  9. Type 1 diabetes is known as juvenile diabetes .This type of diabetes can be cured . This disorder is caused by scarcity in Insulin is a hormone produced by special cells, called beta cells, in the pancreas. The pancreas is found behind your stomach. Insulin is needed to move blood sugar (glucose) into cells, where it is stored and later used for energy. In type 1 diabetes, beta cells produce little or no insulin Type 1 diabetes

  10. Thyroid cancer is a disease that you get when abnormal cells begin to grow in your thyroid.Thyroid cancer is an uncommon type of cancer. Most people who have it do very well, because the cancer is usually found early and the treatments work well. Experts don't know what causes thyroid cancer. Thyroid Cancer

  11. A medical condition, caused by problems arising in the pituitary gland, in which the body does not produce enough growth hormone. Growth hormone is needed for normal growth in children. In adults, growth hormone is needed to maintain the proper amounts of body fat, muscle, and bone. In adults, low or absent growth hormone can also cause emotional symptoms, such as tiredness and lack of motivation. Growth Hormone Deficiency

  12. How to keep your endocrine system healthy • Eat a healthy diet • Minimize stress in your life • Stay in touch with your doctor • Know your families medical history • Exercise regularly
