  3. MICRO-SATELLITE “CHIBIS- M” 1.INTRODUCTIONThe basic scientific task which has to be solved by the “Chibis-M” satellite scientific instrumentation - KNA “Groza” - is the study of the process of the development of the stepped leader of high-altitude lightning in the high electric fields. Thunderstorms and Elementary Particle Acceleration (TEPA-2010) Plasma-wave experiment on the micro-satellite “Chibis-M” is aimed at the solution of fundamental problem - a study of the interrelation of the plasma- wave processes connected with the manifestation in the ionosphere of solar - magnetosphere - ionosphere - atmosphere connections and the parameters of space weather. Specific fundamental problem is the search for universal laws governing transformation and dissipation of plasma- wave energy in the magnetosphere - ionosphere system.

  4. MICRO-SATELLITE “CHIBIS- M” 2.SPACE WEATHER Long-wave electromagnetic radiation is used for studies of plasma processes in space and it plays the same role as seismic waves for studying of the Earth’s structure. In comparison with the electromagnetic processes in other regions of physics waves in plasma possess a number of the specific characteristic features. The fundamental importance is a resonance effect which appears as a result of waves and particles interaction, conversion of modes, formation of resonators and waveguides. Because of resonance effect ultra-low frequencies waves transfer information about the dynamic phenomena in the near-earth outer space and the upper atmosphere. In this case they reach sufficiently large amplitudes in order to have noticeable influence on the flows of plasma and to effectively accelerate electrons in the magnetosphere. It is recently shown that by the disturbance of plasma are accompanied not only magnetic storms but also the ground-based geophysical phenomena connected with the large ejection of energy - explosions, hurricanes and thunderstorm, earthquake etc. Thunderstorms and Elementary Particle Acceleration (TEPA-2010)

  6. MICRO-SATELLITE “CHIBIS- M” We are oriented [2] to the study of the processes, proceeding at the heights to 20 km, with the aid of the micro-satellite, which is found on the height of ~500 km, [2] Klimov, S.I., V.G.Rodin, L.M.Zelenyi, V.N.Angarov. 7. MICRO-SATELLITE “CHIBIS- M” Thunderstorm process The magnetic- wave complex is an additional payload which does not enter into the main payload for the registration of “event” - stepped lightning leader, - but its onboard processor - PSA - will use the produced by this payload strobe for the fixation of generation in this case of EM radiation in the range 10-2 - 2*104 Hz (ULF-VLF). It is known that the EM radiations generated in the basic phase of the lightning discharge called whistles are recorded in VLF frequency range and are observed by the satellites already long ago. 8. MICRO-SATELLITE “CHIBIS- M” • IKI with the participation by • Scientific Research Institute of Nuclear Physics MSU, Moscow; • Physics Institute im. P.N. Lebedev of the RAS, Moscow; • Lviv Centre of Spase Research Institute of NANU-NKAU, Lviv, Ukraine; • Etvosh University (Budapest, Hungary) • developed the model composition of the complex of the scientific instruments (CSI) of micro-satellite - “Chibis-M”. 9. MICRO-SATELLITE “CHIBIS- M” • Using a large experience of basic space research, IKI, together with the cooperation pointed out above, approached the creation of CSI (12.5 kg), which includes: • RGD - Roentgen - gamma detector (range of X-ray and gamma emissions - 50-500 keV); • DUF - Ultraviolet detector (range of ultraviolet radiations - 300-450 nm); • RFA - Radio-frequency analyzer (20-50 MHz); • DPC - Camera of optical range (spatial resolution 300 m) • MWC – Magnetc - wave complex (0.1-40 kHz). 12. MICRO-SATELLITE “CHIBIS- M” PSA is intended for the search of the EM signals considered as the “event” in the data stream from the sensors - those interesting from the point of view of scientific tasks of “Chibis-M”. The determination of “event” is accomplished by the integrated program module of PSA. In the case of EM “event” recognition it is recorded in one of the memory blocks depending on the type of event. In addition to this, the waveform which contains the “event” remains stored in the memory of instrument with the programmed duration and then it is sent into telemetry system. The PSA software can operate in several modes. The changes of operation modes and possible reprogramming of PSA is achieved by the telecommands determined by the number of selected problems. 4.
