  1. One Tree Hill

  2. Introduction • I chose the show One Tree Hill, which was created by Mark Schwahn. It premiered on September 23, 2003. • The main characters are Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray), Nathan Scott (James Lafferty), Peyton Sawyer (Hilarie Burton), Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush), and Haley James (Bethany Joy Lenz). • This show is about two half-brothers that compete for a position on their school basketball team and their relationship, the girls in their lives, and the drama that comes from it all.

  3. Settings This show takes place in a fictional town of Tree Hill, a small but not-so-quiet town in Carolina in modern times. Some of the scenes take place in the school, the character’s houses, or outside.

  4. Lucas Scott • Lucas was born when his parents were still in high school and his dad didn’t want to claim Lucas as his. He left Lucas and his mom, married Nathan’s mom, and they had Nathan. His dad’s brother, Keith, acted as a father figure for Lucas. • Hewas added to the basketball team after most of the other players were suspended for drinking and driving. • His relationship with Nathan isn’t very well at first but eventually they become closer and more like brothers. • After Lucas finds out he has inherited a heart disease from his dad, he has to quit the basketball team. • He starts a relationship with Brooke Davis but still has feelings for Peyton.

  5. Nathan Scott • Nathan’sgirlfriend is Peyton Sawyer until she realizes he’s in the relationship for the benefits, not love. Lucas starts to like her, which further strains their relationship as brothers. • After Lucas joins the basketball team, Nathan feels that people will be nice to him and he doesn’t want that. • He used Lucas’ best friend Haley James to make him mad but ended up falling in love with her. • Nathan’s relationship with Lucas gets better and they become more like brothers.

  6. Peyton Sawyer • Peyton is a cheerleader at Tree Hill High and Nathan’s on-and-off girlfriend. • She starts to have feelings for Lucas but keeps them to herself because of her best friend Brooke, who also likes Lucas. • Peyton defies the stereotype of a cheerleader because she likes music and drawing. • She finds out the people she thought were her birth parents are actually her adoptive parents. • After Lucas confesses his love for Peyton, she leaves him. When she comes back, she finds out that he’s started a relationship with Brooke. Peyton’s feelings for Lucas don’t fade and in the end they’re together.

  7. Teen Issues • The teen issues this show portrays are family problems, relationships, and friendships. • I think the show sends a positive message to its viewers because it lets them know that whatever they go through, they aren’t the only ones.

  8. Viewers • Season one; 3.5 million • Season two; 4.3 million • Season three; 2.8 million • Season four; 2.9 million • Season five • Tuesdays (January 8 – March 18); 3.3 million • Mondays (April 14 – May 19); 2.7 million • Season six; 2.8 million • Season seven; 2.3 million • Season eight; 1.8 million • Season nine (final season); 1.855 million • I think this show is successful because it’s relatable and everything that happens is easy to be interested in.

  9. Comparison Season one of Glee ran from September 2009 to June 2010. The show is only in its fourth season. So far, it has a total viewer rate of 28.59 million. One Tree Hill had nine seasons, starting in September 2003 and ended in April 2012. In total, the show had a viewer rate of 28.26 million. I think Glee is more popular, despite One Tree Hill having been on the air for nine years, because of the singing and the characters. It’s been advertised a lot as well. One Tree Hill is shown through the main characters’ four years of high school, then four years later. Glee is shown in high school years because it’s the school’s glee club. I like One Tree Hill more because it’s interesting and more dramatic.
