  2. Standard • MM4A9. Students will use sequences and series. • c. Find and apply the sums of finite and, where appropriate, infinite arithmetic and geometric series.d. Use summation notation to explore finite series.

  3. Essential Questions • I can use sigma notation to determine finite series. • I can find the partial sums of a finite sequence.

  4. Finding the sum of a series • Can do it the old fashioned way, like yesterday. • or… • use Gauss’s solution

  5. Gauss’s Solution • Formula used to determine the sum of all terms in a sequence. • Sn = n(a1 + an) / 2 • First n even integers, an = 2n • First n odd integers, an = 2n-1
