  1. 4 EFFECTIVE MITIGATION TIPS FOR MANAGING THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF SHIFT WORK Managing shift workers is not an easy job and it calls for first-class time management skills and modernized time clock management systems as we are about to see. But first, who is a shift worker? A shift worker can be defined as an employee who works outside the regular hours, which are from 7 am to 6 pm. In short, shift workers work when other are resting or sleeping, and this makes them vulnerable workers for a number of reasons. For starters, research shows that shift workers are more prone to illnesses and work- related injuries. Other studies show that divorce rates are higher in families where one or both spouses work odd hours. As an employer, it is your responsibility to do all you can to ease the negative effects of shift work on your workers. This might require you to invest in expensive employee time management software, or hire part timers. Whatever the case, shift workers are valuable and should be treated as such.

  2. Below are some very effective tips on how to manage shift workers effectively, while mitigating the negative effects of shift work: Pay them fairly and on time–paying fair wages to shift workers (or slightly higher wages) and without unnecessary delays will motivate them to increase their output. To eliminate wage delays, a premium punch clock management system should be able to simplify and quicken the payroll preparation process. Minimize night shifts hours– if possible, come up with a system that minimizes night shift hours. For companies that operate for 24 hours, this might call for employing more workers. Maintain predictable schedules– doing this will enable workers to plan their free time confidently without worrying about being assigned night shift suddenly. This requires excellent employee time management skills as mentioned earlier, and a dependable time clock management system. Provide adjustment periods between shifts– when changing employees from day shift to nightshift (and vice versa); provide an adjustment period of at least 48 hours to give them time to adjust mentally and physically as well. Doing so can be a bit tricky, especially when dealing with a huge number of shift workers. But as most managers and supervisors have discovered, a digitalized punch clock management system makes it extremely easy to manage even the most sensitive employees, such as night shift workers. After reading this article, the importance of installing a digitalized time clock management system for a company that operates for 24 hours becomes obvious. However, when it comes to employee time management, such companies should go for the best systems in the market, which for now happen to be digitalized and biometric based time clock/ punch clock management systems.
