  2. Preparation Spot dictation Direction: The following paragraph is taken from Text A. Listen carefully and fill in the blanks without referring to the original text.   3. Reading Through • Main Idea The passage tells us a story of about Michael. Michael is a person who chooses to look on the bright side of a situation. He takes a positive attitude towards everything and he benefits a lot from his positive attitude, especially when the terrible accident happened to him. It is his amazing attitude to face life with laugh that at last saved him from death. From this story we learned that attitude is everything. Life can be different, and it all depends on your own choice.

  6. Detailed Study of Text A 1. Michael is norun-of-the-millkind ofguy. Meaning: Michael is by no means an ordinary man.No, as a determiner (限定词), means not a or not any. But in certain circumstances no and not a cannot be used interchangeably. e.g. "He is no singer." means "He can't sing at all (他根本不会唱歌)." While "He is not a singer." just indicates the fact that the person is not a singer by profession (他不是个歌唱家). Therefore, the sentence "Michael is no run-of-the-mill kind of guy." suggests that Michael is an extraordinary (不一般的) kind of person.Note that guy is used on informal occasions in American English.
