  3. What is SSERCA? • Sunshine State Education and Research Computing Alliance • Runs on top of Florida Lambda Rail infrastructure • Website: http://www.sserca.org • Add value to members and affiliates • Provide cyberinfrastructure • Collaboration • Innovation SC12

What is research computing? • computing and data management activities related to research • including, but not limited to • high-performance computing (HPC) • parallel computing (GPU and MPI) • high-throughput computing (HTC) • collection, management, searching, mining of large sets of data (BIGDATA) Nov 12-15,2012

  6. Who is the SSERCA audience? • Faculty and investigators at Florida • universities, • colleges, • academic research institutions, and • later: startup companies • And their students and collaborators SC12

  7. SSERCA • Is a lightweight virtual entity to • Empower members and affiliates • Enable collaborations of faculty in the state • With others in the state and elsewhere • Is not a small • OSG • XSEDE • Cloud service provider SC12

  8. SSERCA acts through members • All SSERCA coordinated activities • are executed by the members and affiliates • SSERCA owns no resources SC12

  11. Sustainable goals • These goals are sustainable • Operating • Hardware • Software • Services • Are not sustainable for SSERCA • Those remain the tasks for members SC12

  14. Need to be nimble • To help faculty be responsive • We need to be ready • SSERCA members must invest • In preparatory work • Research and development • Need for dedicated staff at each member institution SC12

  18. SSERCA services • Cannot be sustained if • they do not align • with the goals and mission • of the member institution • that is providing resources • It is critical to keep this alignment SC12
