  1. Welcome! Thanks for coming this evening! Please find your child’s desk, and have a seat. 

  2. About the Teacher • 13th year of teaching • Have two children, Ethan & Brenna • Married for 10 years to great hubby • Have lived in several states • Undergraduate from Texas A&M • Masters in Educational Technology • Love my job!

  3. Morning Arrival 7:15-7:45 Doors open at 7:15AM YSchool begins promptly at 7:45AM Bellwork is assigned at this time, but not too often taken for a grade since it’s difficult to have everyone finished due to various arrival times. Announcements at 7:40AM.

  4. Math Calendar 7:50-8:00 We meet on the carpet and discuss the calendar and number of the day, as well as any other important information for the day.

  5. Reading and Writing 8:00-10:00 Our Literacy Instruction includes whole group modeling and teaching, as well as independent practice time. We also do small groups which include: Read to Self—Read to Someone Listen to Reading Writing—Word Work—Guided Reading .

  6. Math 10:00-11:00 We will have an hour of math instruction each day. Homework will cover the same math objective to serve as an extension of the day’s learning.

  7. Lunch 11:00-11:30 Please send lunch money in a baggie or envelope with your child’s name on it. You are welcome to come have lunch with your child. There is visitor table for you to enjoy. Microwaves can be used by 3rd graders.

  8. Recess 11:30-11:55 We can only go out if outside temperature is above 40 degrees and below 100 degrees. Be sure your child has “the right” recess shoes as well as weather appropriate clothing.

  9. Study Hall 11:30-11:55 • Reasons Your Child Goes to Study Hall Instead of Recess: • Unfinished classwork from the morning * • Completing make-up work • Consequence for an undesirable behavior • No homework

  10. Science 12:00-12:50 We are keeping most of our science work in journals that will come home at the end of the year. End of the unit work may come home towards the middle and end of the six weeks.

  11. Social Studies 12:50-1:30 We will integrate social studies and reading to cover more topics in depth. In addition to our communities topics, we also will learn about important people in history.

  12. DEAR Time 1:30-1:50 This is a quiet reading time which allows me to pull a small group for instruction or reading.

  13. Specials 1:50-2:55 One day we go onto music, with the next day it’s onto computers. Our class always ends in p.e. Please make sure your child has “the right” shoes for p.e.

  14. Afternoon Dismissal 3:00 Hopefully it’s all working smoothly now. Grades k-2 are in the gym, along with their older siblings. Grades 3-5 are in the cafeteria.

  15. Homework Math and spelling homework come home on Mondays and are not due back until Friday morning. Reading homework is 20 minutes a night. (Please sign the calendar each night.) We encourage any kind of reading, including listening to read, reading independently, or reading with someone.

  16. Grading • 12 grades are taken in reading, writing, math, social studies, and science per six weeks. • Grades are posted on line every Monday by 4:00PM. • Progress reports at 3-weeks. • Report cards at end of 6-weeks. • Sometimes re-do’s of daily assignments are allowed. • Weekly tests as well as end-of-the-six-weeks tests will be given.

  17. Classroom Management FISH  = Super Day  = Warning(s) K= Reflection Needed L= Time Out (Class/Recess) 1st: Verbal reminder. 2nd: Loss of a cube. (Can earn it back.) 3rd: Loss of a cube and a time out from activity. 4th: Loss of cube , parent contact and perhaps office referral.

  18. Dress Code • The Dress Code is on the blue folders. • Special Notes: • Plaid shorts or skirts are not allowed. • Feathers in the hair are not allowed. • Shirts must have a collar or be Aubrey ISD. • Leggings must be solid. • Dresses do not need collars.

  20. No TAKS! Hello STAAR!! The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™) has replaced the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), which is the assessment program that has been in place since 2003. STAAR™ includes the 12 end-of-course (EOC) assessments mandated by SB 1031 in 2007 and the new grade 3–8 assessments mandated by HB 3 in 2009. The new tests will be implemented in the 2011–2012 school year. YApril 23, 2013 is Math STAAR. YApril 24, 2013 is Reading STAAR.

  21. Birthdays! We would love to celebrate your child’s birthday with them. By state law, we must do it after lunch. Also, all goodies must be store bought with label still attached. I also need a 24 hour notice. Thank you. 

  22. Field Trips Our one field trip is on November 8th to Elm Fork at UNT. We can only take a few volunteers per class due to limitations UNT enforces, so we’ll do a drawing.

  23. Volunteer in our Classroom! Volunteers Our wonderful PTO would love you to sign up as a volunteer. I will also need parents to help make copies and laminate, so please sign up if you’d like. Thanks.
