  1. Incoming 7th Grade Schedulingfor the 2014-2015 school year

  2. Course Sheets • Fill in the top box of your course sheet – write neatly. • If your address has changed or is incorrect, mark it out and write your new/correct address.

  3. Course Sheets • Select your P.E. or Sports class. • Only choose ONE. • Put a check mark by the appropriate class (boys or girls).

  4. Elective Information Do NOT start filling out the next section on your course sheet yet. • 7th graders will get ONE elective besides their P.E./Sports elective for a total of 2. • Fine Arts Requirement: All students are required to take one year of fine arts (art/band/choir/theatre) during middle school. • If you are in multi-media this year, you will need to select a fine arts class this year or next year. • Elective course descriptions can be found on the back side of the course sheet, and there are video descriptions on the HMS website under the Parent and Student tabs. • All electives are offered on a limited basis due to class size restrictions. • Electives that require an application and selection process: 1. Broadcast Media I (school news) 2. Honors Art (available if you are in art this year) 3. Yearbook (should enjoy writing/technology/photography and be able to commit some time outside of the school day to attend school events) • Applications are due to Mrs. Schneider (located in Ms. Gipson’s old office) by Friday, March 14th(the Friday before Spring Break).

  5. Fine Arts/Other Electives • Rank your top three choices andnumber them 1 through 3with “1” being your first choice on your course sheet now. • If you are selected for an application elective, your schedule will be changed this summer. We will use the rankings you put down on this course sheet to determine which class to drop for application electives OR if your 1st choice elective is too full.

  6. Required & Pre-AP Courses • 7th graders are required to take the following core classes: • ELA: ELA isdouble-blocked, meaning you will have it twice a day with the same teacher. It counts for 2 of your 7 classes. So when you get your schedule in August and see ELA on it twice, remember it is not a mistake! • Math • Science • Social Studies • These core classes have already been selected for you. • Pre-AP ELA and Pre-AP math are available for 7th graders. • These placements will be made at the end of the school year. • They will be determined by the placement rubric (placement test scores, STAAR scores, unit assessment averages, teacher recommendations), academic departments, and administration.

  7. Signatures • Please sign and date your course sheet now. • Take this home tonight and have your parent/guardian sign and date it. • Turn it in to your social studies teacher by this Friday. • If we do not get your signed course sheet back, we will pick your electives for you.
