  4. Oculomotor (III) • Sensory and motor (“mixed”) • Eye & eyelid movement • Eye muscles: inferior oblique, superior, inferior, & medial rectus muscles • Pupil constriction • Lens shape

  5. Trochlear (IV) • Motor and sensory (“mixed”) • Eye movement • Eye muscles: superior oblique muscle

  6. Trigeminal (V) • Sensory and motor (“mixed”) • Somatosensory information (touch, pain) from the face and head. • Face muscles. • Anterior scalp muscles. • Muscles for chewing.

  7. Abducens (VI) • Motor • Eye movement • Eye muscles: lateral rectus of eye

  8. Facial (VII) • Motor and sensory (“mixed”) • Taste (anterior 2/3 of tongue) • Lacrimal and salivary glands • Somatosensory information from ear • Controls muscles used in facial expression.

  9. Vestibulocochlear (VIII) • Sensory • Hearing • Balance/equlibrium

  12. Accessory (XI) • Motor and sensory • Controls muscles used in head movement. • Sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles

  13. Hypoglossal (XII) • Motor and sensory (“mixed”) • Controls muscles of tongue • Sensory fibers of tongue
