Africa is the 2nd largest continent on Earth • Africa has diverse climatic zones • Including deserts, fertile river valleys, rain forests and savannahs • The Sahara desert in the North and Kalahari in the South are huge expanses of extremely dry land • South of the Sahara is a semiarid region called the Sahel • A vast grassland, or savannah, covers Africa south of the Sahel • The Nile River supports a fertile agricultural area in the east • Central and Southern Africa contain dense Rainforests A Huge Diverse Land
Scientists that study the evolution of humans have concluded that humanity began in the savannah regions of Africa. Fossil and genetic evidence suggests all people today most likely descended from human ancestors or, hominids in Africa 5-10 million of years ago According to the out of Africa model the first modern humans emerged around 200,000 years ago and began to move from Africa 100,000 years later The Birthplace of Humanity
