  1. MEDIA RELEASE 8 April 2005 200 NUH Staff Volunteer For Charity Car Wash in Celebration of NUH 20th Anniversary To kick-start National University Hospital (NUH) 20th Anniversary Celebration, more than 200 NUH staff, including the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NUH, Mr Chua Song Khim and Department Chief of Paediatrics, Children’s Medical Institute at NUH, Assoc Prof Quak Seng Hock will put away their scrubs, stethoscopes and office attire on Friday, 8 April 2005 to participate in the Charity Car Wash in a bid to raise funds for the ST School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF). Not satisfied to simply involve the 3300-strong NUH staff in the celebration, the organizing committee is pulling out all efforts to raise funds for SPMF. For eleven hours, from 8.00 am to 7.00 pm, NUH and National Healthcare Group (NHG) staff as well as patients and families will drop by NUH Linkway 1 to have their vehicles washed at a minimum of $10.00. Donating generously to the event is Gloria Chan, Senior Executive, Corporate Communications, NHG. She said, “I'm more than happy to part with my $50.00 just to have the CEO wash my car! The pocket money fund is a cause that's close to my heart because I have a soft spot for children. It pains me to think of those kids who go to school without any pocket money because their parents cannot afford it. And for schoolchildren, recess time is one of the highlights of their school day." Not limiting to just staff and patients, SMRT Taxis is also supporting the event by way of ten colourful London Cabs driving down to NUH for a good wash. SMRT Taxis has been a business partner with NUH through NUH Chaperone Taxi Service - a personalized taxi service that ferries discharged patients back home at no extra service charge.  The Chaperone Taxi Service gives patients and family members peace of mind when they have no time or transport available. SMRT cabbies will escort the patients upon their discharge from the hospital right to their doorsteps. First in the queue was Mr Tay Tian Seng in his ever-popular Dalmatian print London Cab, “Our London cabs are popular with patients, especially those who are wheelchair-bound, or those who need to visit NUH for regular check-ups. My colleagues and I are glad to support NUH in their fund raising event.  Moreover, to have our London cabs washed by NUH staff is indeed refreshing.”    In conjunction with the fund raising event, Mr Chua Song Khim unveiled NUH 20th anniversary celebration logo and tagline at the start of the event. The Charity Car Wash is the first of four charity events to be held throughout the year in celebration of NUH 20th Anniversary as well as to live up to its social responsibility. More information on the fund raising activities will be released in due course. - ends - For media enquiries, please contact Ms Chin Yen Yen, Media Relations, NUH at Tel: 67724694 or Page: 98024722.
