USP Evangelistic Centre

With approximately 250 multi-cultural members from various Pacific nations, the USP Church faces challenges in securing venues for worship and transportation, impacting attendance and children's Sabbath School. Despite these challenges, the Building Project Progress highlights fundraising efforts and plans for land acquisition and church design.   1. USP Evangelistic Centre 3rd Quarter 13th Sabbath Mission Project

The Project Objectives Build a church for the student group at the University of the South Pacific, Suva. • To provide a stable worship environment for students to be spiritually and socially nurtured in. • To enable members to also focus on evangelism and share the message in their secular institutions.

  3. Membership • Current count approx. 250 members • Multi-cultural – Solomons, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Kiribati, Tuvalu, PNG, Vanuatu, Fed States of Micronesia, Australia and NZ and others • Trans Pacific Mission expatriate workers

  4. Tongans Samoans Vanuatu Fijians PNG Aust & NZ I-Kiribati Tuvaluans Solomons Cook Islanders

  5. Institutions • University of the South Pacific (USP) , Fiji School of Medicine, Fiji School of Nursing, Fiji Institute of Technology, Fiji College of Advanced Education and other institutions.

  6. Challenges • Weekly search for a worship venue • Financially costly – securing venues and transportation to venues • Fluctuation of church service attendances • Children's needs not prioritised.

  8. Challenges cont… • Venue preparations done on Sabbath. • Transporting equipment, church decorations, and ordinance service requirements on Sabbath to the various venues.

  9. Building Project Progress & Plans • Plans began in 2002. • 2003 – a singing group went to New Zealand to raise money. Collected approx. $15,000 • Weekly offerings for Project = $180 weekly. • Special segment of prayers for the project in weekly services. • Promotional visits to local churches in the Central and Western divisions.

  10. Building Project Progress & Plans • Building Committee meets weekly to discuss developments and action plans. • Applied for 4 blocks of land in a new land development at Laucala Bay. (To be confirmed in September). • Each block will cost $120,000. • Architect presently working on conceptual design of church. • Day of Prayer & Fasting – 16th September.
