  1. Writing Marvelous Body Paragraphs The meat of your essay is in the body paragraphs. This is where you express your ideas and impress the reader. How can you accomplish these goals?

  2. Focus • Your paragraph should focus on one topic. Make sure you don’t get carried away and begin discussing another topic. Refer back to your topic sentence every once in a while to make surethat you are on the right track. • Each paragraph should express purposeful and insightful ideas on one main idea.

  3. Support Substantial (enough detail) Specific- provide proper nouns when possible (Empire State Building, Dolphin Mall…) Illustrative- add anecdotes (short, personal stories that focus on your topic) Relevant- on topic Commitment to and an involvement with the subject (you really get it)

  4. Language Mature command of language(you must understand the high level words you are using) Precise word choice Freshness of expression (a new way of saying the same thing) The paper flows smoothly-logical progression of ideas (transitions)

  5. Conventions (grammar, spelling, punctuation) Spelling Punctuation Usage Sentence structure is varied

  6. Paragraph Ending Close the paragraph Avoid tacky expression Try to lead the reader to your next paragraph
