The Boer War • Read about it… • Who were the Boers? • Dutch settlers in South Africa • Why did they go on the “Great Trek” north? • To escape the British, but quickly clashed with Zulu warriors • Why did the war start? • The Boers blamed the British for “outsiders” coming into S. Africa to exploit diamond and gold resources • What was the result? • Britain won and united the Boer republics into the self-governing Union of S. Africa controlled by the British
