Academic Excellence Indicator System 2010-11 Report • Texas Education Code §39.053 requires each district’s Board of Trustees to publish an annual report that includes: • the AEIS report (including the Campus Comparable Improvement Reports); • campus performance objectives; • a report of violent or criminal incidents; and, • information received under Texas Education Code §51.403(e) from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. • A hearing for public discussion of the annual report must be held within 90 calendar days from November 10, 2011 (the release date to superintendents). Within two weeks after the hearing, the AEIS report must be widely disseminated within the district.

Prevention and Intervention • Prevention begins with well-informed students, parents and staff. • NEISD produces and makes available an electronic version of the District Student/Parent Handbook, both in English and Spanish. A hard copy is available by request. The Handbook contains the District Student Code of Conduct that provides written expectations of student behavior as well as disciplinary procedures and consequences. • School personnel review highlights of the handbook with students and reinforce rules and expectations throughout the school year.

Prevention and Intervention • NEISD uses a variety of curricula including: • Positive Attitudes Coming Together – peer based mediation program • Second Step • Steps to Respect • Character Counts • Basic School / Self Managers • Safe School Ambassadors • CHAMPS • Project Wisdom • NEISD works to ensure there is a consistent application of discipline management throughout the district.

  16. Prevention and Intervention • NEISD provides a comprehensive set of support programs under the auspices of the Leadership Development and Safe and Drug-Free Schools departments including: • The Leader in Me • Peer Assistance and Leadership (PAL) • Student Teacher Assistance Network (STAN) • Peer Mediation • Safe School Ambassadors
