  1. Hazardous Household Product Symbols • Symbols used on products around the house • Have special shapes and colors • Use 4 main symbols to indicate what type of hazard the material creates

  2. Poison • These products will be immediately harmful if ingested • Contact the poison control department or 911 immediately

  3. Flammable • These products may ignite causing fire • Know the proper type of extinguisher to use on each material that has this symbol

  4. Explosive • These products may explode if placed near fire or if dropped/jarred • Know the proper storage conditions and the type of extinguisher to use should an explosion or fire occur

  5. Corrosive • These products may cause severe burns to skin • These products may destroy clothing or be harmful if their fumes are inhaled • Should these materials touch your skin, rinse immediately with lots of cold water

  7. Shapes & Colors • The “stop sign” means DANGER and will be RED • The “diamond” means WARNING and will be ORANGE • The “turned triangle” means CAUTION and will be YELLOW
