A career in humanities and social sciences can be challenging at first because it requires not only research and analytical skills, but requires you to be creative, critical, and flexible at the same time. This is why, before making the decision of applying for a field in humanities or social sciences, go through a few things to consider for a graduate degree in these fields.

  3. THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE OPTING FOR A CAREER IN HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCE Humanities and social science is an Interesting field and it is a course opted by a large number of students. But there are a lot of things to consider before choosing it.

  4. YOU HAVE TO BE ADAPTIVE If you want to be a social scientist, it is imperative that you develop transferable skills. This means that you must be a critical thinker and portray skills of a researcher, but in other instances you have to be creative and open to change when the need arises.

  5. THE DEGREE ITSELF IS FLEXIBLE Although, you have to be adaptive to be a social scientist, the degree in itself is adaptive as well. You have to choice to control where you want to focus, pick your specialty area and customise your studies based on your passions.

  6. YOU ARE WORKING FOR SOCIETY While deciding to opt for a career in humanities or social science, you have to consider that you are essentially working for human society. Therefore, you have to be connected to the human world, with effective judgemental skills and an inquisitive mind that loves to explore.

ARE YOU GOOD AT COMMUNICATION Depending on how you choose to specialise, communication is a tool that will be needed if you want to become a successful researcher in humanities or social sciences. You will need to communicate with other academics, your teachers, mentors, and later as a working professional, you will need communication to reach conclusive results.

PERSPECTIVE IS KEY While studying humanities and social sciences, it is inevitable that you will come across various cultures, backgrounds, values and principles, which may even be in opposition to your own personal views.
