  3. Education/Training • Less than a high school education • Long term on the job training • Start as an assistant • No work experience

  4. Salary • 2010 median pay ~ $23,450 per year • $11.27 per hour

  5. Attributes and Abilities • Pastry chefs must have arithmetic, communicate skills and stamina, Be detail oriented. • Can wear anything that they want as long as they wear an apron.

  6. Job Outlook • This job is to have little or no change from 2010 to 2020.

  7. Duties of a Pastry Chef…. • Must check the quality in ingredients. • Prepare equipment for baking. • Measure & weigh flour and other ingredients. • Combine measured ingredients in mixers, or blenders. • Know how to use spoons, spatulas, picks, bowls, and plates.

  8. Duties Continued…. • Knead, roll, cut, and shape dough. • Place dough in pans, molds, or on sheets. • Set oven temperatures. • Place and bake items in hot ovens or grills. • Apply glazes, icings, or other toppings with spatulas or brushes.

  9. How Do Pastry Chefs Use Math? • Pastry chefs use math to measure and weigh the ingredients used.
