  5. ABOUT ME • Name: Ernest Gilbert Jaja • Country: Nigeria • Age: 25 • Profession: Film Maker/creative Writer • Bacground • I am an ambitious visionary and talented change agent. I am from Rivers State Nigeria. I am the CEO of Global Productions International GPI; a Social Sector Organization into Art and Culture, Entertainment, Computer/Equipments. • I am from OpoboNkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. We speak Igbo and Igbani. • My Mother is from AkwaIbom State of Nigeria, her Language is Efik. I am a film Maker, Poet, Digital Editor, HIV/AIDS Volunteer. I am member of: World Youth Alliance, Global Youth Action for Development, Network of African Youth Development.

  6. COURSE EXPECTATION • Course Expectation: My expectation about this course is for me to acquire knowledge that will enable me to safeguard my immediate environment against dangers. And also to enable me affirm to the Earth Charter Principles which will encourage me to recognize that in the midst of a magnificent diversity of cultures and life forms we are one human family and one Earth community with a common destiny. We must join together to bring forth a sustainable global society founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace. Towards this end, it is imperative that we, the peoples of Earth, declare our responsibility to one another, to the greater community of life, and to future generations. • Finally, my expectation is to gain support and partner with this organization in my proposed project of producing a film that will educate and sensitize my community and the youth on how to prevent environmental harm and to protect the rights of people.And also affirm that with increased freedom, knowledge, and power comes increased responsibility to promote the common good. And as well network with well-meaning individuals across the world for betterment of life and society.

  7. If I could have any ‘super power’ I would…" • "If I could have any ‘super power’ I would…" ensure that our environment is highly protected against any harm. I will also create a means of livelihood to those that are in need, and as well eradicate poverty and ensure the protection of human dignity.

Madeline Matia • Age: 15 • Country: Northeast Ohio, United States • Favorite Part of Earth Charter: Preamble, The Challenges Ahead; I agree that the biggest challenge is that our ways of life and values don’t support an interconnected world, especially the U.S.’s • Background: -Currently a freshman at Olmsted Falls High School -Volunteered at Berea Animal Rescue one summer -Taken a couple Future Scientists camps at the Museum of Natural History, got to help study local wildlife

The dog who I’m saving the environment for Activism • Receive email alerts from organizations like Defenders of Wildlife, Care2, and Greenpeace giving opportunities to sign petitions • Adopted two wolves from Defenders of Wildlife • This course is my biggest step so far towards becoming an activist

Life Goals • Wanted to be a veterinarian for a long time • Still want to work with animals • Thinking about a science-based, influential, and adventurous career • Possibilities: Environmental Scientist, Ecologist, Conservationist • Want to change policies and write books changing people’s minds about the importance of the environment • Keep my country’s future from being completely overpopulated, no wild places or wildlife left, people not caring about environment, which is what I’m seeing happening Me and my friend Vickie who wants the same thing

Course Expectations • Learn how to change my lifestyle so it has a positive, rather than a negative, impact on the earth • Gain the ability and confidence to teach people about why they should and how they can help the environment • Be able to teach respect and love for animals and learn ways to show it • Anything else I don’t know!

  12. If I could have any superpower, I would…be able to talk and communicate with animals. That way I could prove to people that we need to try harder to make our lives work for us and for animals.

Background Info- A Female officer. Works in a hospital, Federal Medical Centre. Provides information and enlightenment on HIV/AIDS, among other health related matters. An Instructor at the National Open University of Nigeria, Gombe study center.A member and president of the Nigerian Library and Information science Association, Gombe Chapter, a national council member.Involves in propagetion of unity and peace among professionals,fighting for common goals and human rights and bringing sustainable development and progress through Information sharing / broking.Founder and member of an NGO, The Widows and Orphans support programme.A member and supporter of other NGOs, e.g, MSL, CEM . My desire to participate in this course is that I may be equipped with new knowledge, wisdom and understanding that may assist me in achieving my goals in life.If I could have any super power, I would Change the world by making it a better place to live in. Where ALL will be at peace with one another. No wars, hunger, pestilence and diseases. Make it a place where everybody will be happy, free for self expression, empowered, self reliable and equal rights, no class difference or difference between the poor and the rich. There will be equal rights and Justice.
