Impact Investment Funds • Echoing Green is a New York-based firm that specializes in funding and supporting early-stage social enterprises. • CI3 will work with Echoing Green to research, identify, and recommend innovative social financing strategies and deal structures for use by Echoing Green Fellows. • CI3 Associates will have the opportunity to learn about the rapidly evolving social finance sector and have a lasting influence on the support provided to Echoing Green Fellows. • Trippplus is a new impact investing firm based in Miami, Florida with the mission to identify, support and monitor innovative enterprises that can generate lasting systemic change in North, Central, and South America. • CI3will support Trippplus' due diligence and investment monitoring processes. • CI3 Associates will have the opportunity to gain concrete experience in social enterprise investment, due diligence and impact evaluation.

Social Entrepreneurs • WARC is a private initiative currently harvesting its first rice yield on 400ha of land in Sierra Leone • CI3 will support WARC’s initiative to produce a substantial and replicable knowledge base in participatory organic rice production that will support food security targets in West Africa. • In January 2013, WARC will be conducting its pilot Organized Small Farmers Initiative. This is a chance for students to learn and analyze their current business model and support WARC trough analysis, recommendations, microfinance assessment, revenue generating resources inside the program, and financial assessments • THE NEW AMERICAN TAVERN award winning social venue for people who care about public affairs, local issues, and social change. 35 events • CI3 will investigate and recommend an approach to programming, outcome measurement, performance management systems, and impact investor outreach that will advance on the current work of TNAT. • Students will get a chance to learn about social impact theories, social capital, civic engagement, placemaking and other related topics

Social Entrepreneurs • Ongoing Social enterprise located in the Amazon area of Puerto Leguizamo Colombia – 812 member families • CI3 will support BDR in mapping of existing potential international and local partners to tailor BIODIESEL DE LOS RIOS’ business model to what identified potential investors may require • This project will allow for students to develop their assessment of impact investors and determine what constitutes real value propositions to them. • Current NY support. Spanish speakers. • Is an early stage company focused on building a media platform about making a difference in the world. They create and curate content (videos, articles) about social action and travel and connect users to opportunities for philanthropy and activism • CI3 will help formulate a capital raising strategy targeting impact investors. • Students will learn about Mission TV’s model and its metrics to measure impact. They will be encouraged to look at the project from an objective “blank slate” and based on a critical analysis of Mission’s value proposition to the market, deliver recommendations and a toolkit to the client • Continuity into next semester – partnership and internships.

The Columbia Social Venture Fund About the Fund The CI3 Experience • The Columbia Social Venture Fund (“CSVF” or “the Fund”) is a non-profit, impact investment fund launched jointly by graduate students at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and Columbia Business School (CBS) • The Fund is conceived as an extension of the activities of the Columbia Impact Investing Initiative (CI3) • The Fund’s mission is to serve the Columbia University community by providing graduate students with hands-on experience managing and working for an impact investment fund. Students will exit CSVF with invaluable experience in fundraising, investment due diligence, deal structuring, and negotiation.

Decision Making Process Students will be involved in every aspect of the decision making process Deal Sourcing & Screening Investment Memorandum Investment Approval & Deal Execution Portfolio Management • Student Associates sources deals through multiple CI3 channels • Student team will prepare investment screening document • Screening document presented to Executive Director for approval • Additional due diligence performed at Exec. Directors request • Approved deals go through formal due diligence process including: • Market Analysis • Financial Analysis • DCF • Exit Strategies • At this stage deals that do not seem investable may become possible Technical Assistance projects for CI3Associates • Investment Committee review investment memorandum, must approve investment with unanimous vote • Pro-bono legal closing documentation • Director of Portfolio Management responsible for monitoring all portfolio investments with support of Senior Associates • Social Impact Measurements collected and presented to Board of Advisor on a quarterly basis or as requested • Portfolio Companies may also request & receive TA from CI3 Associates
