Prague!. Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic; it is located in the centre of Bohemia. Prague spreads out on both banks of the river Vltava. It is the political, cultural and economic centre of the country.

  2. Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic; it is located in the centre of Bohemia. Prague spreads out on both banks of the river Vltava. It is the political, cultural and economic centre of the country. • Prague has 1.2 million inhabitants. It is the seat of the President, government, parliament and a lot of national and international institutions. /e.g. embassies/ • Prague is a city with a long history. /It was founded in the 9th century./ The reign of Charles IV. and Rudolph II. were very important for the history of Prague. • Prague is sometimes called – Golden City or City of Hundred Spires. /There are hundreds of church spires in Prague./

  3. People from all over the world visit Prague every year. They start their sightseeing at THE POWDER TOWER. From the Powder Tower leads the Royal Route. • /The Royal Route leads through Celetná Street to the Old Town Square and across Charles Bridge through Neruda Street up to the Castle. In the Middle Ages the kings lived in a palace in the centre of Prague and rode up to the Castle to coronation ceremony or to audiences./ • The tourists go along the Celetná Street, which leads to the THE OLD TOWN SQUARE.

  4. The Old Town Square is surrounded by rich decorated houses with coloured facades /e.g. the house At the Stone Bell/. The best known building in the square is the Old Town Hall with the Astronomical Clock. The Astronomical Clock strikes every 60 minutes and tourists can see a procession of Apostles in the upper part of the Clock. • Other beautiful building in the Old Town Square are the Týn cathedral where Danish astronomer Tycho de Brahe is buried and the baroque St.Nicolaus Church. In the centre of the Square is situated the John Hus statue. John Hus was a Czech priest and reformer. He preached in the Bethlehem Chapel.

  5. Two important streets start from the Square – Pařížská Street, which leads to the Jewish Town. In the Jewish Town there are situated the Old-New Synagogue and the Jewish Cemetery. And the other street is Karlova street, which leads to Charles Bridge. • CHARLES BRIDGE is the oldest and most charming bridge in Prague. It was built by Charles IV. in gothic style in the 14th century. The bridge is fortified with towers on either side. The bridge is decorated with baroque statues. In summer it is always full of tourists, souvenir stalls and street artists. • Behind the Charles Bridge there is THE LESSER TOWN situated.

  6. The Lesser Town is a poetic quarter with picturesque narrow streets, stylish taverns, ancient houses and palaces and romantic gardens. The dominant of the Lesser Town is St. Nicholas Church built in baroque style. • The we can go along Neruda Street up to the Castle. In the street the famous writer Jan Neruda was born. • PRAGUE CASTLE has been the seat of the President of the Czech Republic since 1918. , is the dominant of the city. The monumental complex of the castle include two important halls - the Gothic Vladislav Hall and the baroque Spanish Hall. • The dominant of Prague Castle is St.Vitus Cathedral. It was built in gothic style by two famous architects Matthias of Arras and Petr Parléř. In the cathedral the coronation jewels are kept. • A lot of tourists visit the Basilica of St. George and the Royal Summer Palace Belvedere.

  7. In the Golden Lane we can find small houses with coloured façade. In these houses lived craftsmen in the 16th century and there are souvenir shops today. • The heart of the New Town is WENCESLAS SQUARE. It is a boulevard lined with banks, department stores, boutiques, shops, hotels, restaurants, cafés, theatres and cinemas. The upper end of the square is closed by the Neo-Renaissance building of the National Museum. This museum contains historical and natural history collections. Near the museum there stands the St. Wenceslas Statue. • From the bottom of the square we can go along Národní Street to the Vltava River. On the bank of the Vltava River the beautiful Neo-Renaissance building of the National Theatre is situated. • PETŘÍN is a famous lookout tower, it is a free copy of the Eiffel Tower
