Make sure to have your INDEPENDENT READING BOOK in the room with you. • Find your new seat and have out… • INDEPENDENT READING BOOK • Notebook • Pen/ pencil Happy Monday!If you did not hand in Progress Check #2 last week, hand it in now. You need your book! If you forget it, you will need to use a pass to retrieve it from your locker.

  3. Remember- Independent Reading in class EVERY MONDAY! • Reminder: 1. In your NOTES section- write down ANY words you can think of which contain the posted roots. Roots and Reading 2. In small groups, infer the meaning of each root. 3. RECORD the correct information in the VOCAB section of your notebook. 4. Read silently and record 3 words in your VOCAB section.

  4. In your notebook, record the word parts for this week: • agon • fac/ fect/ fic/ fit/ -fy • nym/ onym/ onom • scrib/ script • uni/ mono/ sol • therm list as many words as you can think of which contain these word parts.

  5. Read through each list and make an INFERENCE about what each root might mean. “I think ______ means _______ because…” In your small group…

  6. Create the following chart- • Be sure you give yourself room to record information. 7 In your VOCABULARY section- 4

Reading allows us to increase our vocabulary, so… As you read… look for words which are new to you. • Your SSR goal: Record 3 words which… Using our knowledge… • Are new to you and you find interesting • Contain any studied word parts • You have seen/ learned before and would like to incorporate into your vocabulary

  9. Use the context and/ or word parts to INFER the meaning of your listed words. • Check the word’s meaning with the dictionary. • If you can’t understand the definition, ask for teacher or peer help. • Share at least ONE word each six weeks! Learn your words!

  10. Summer Reading Assignment- due today (now it’s late…) • After school help on Wednesday! • Progress Check #3- due NEXT T/ W • Keep on READING! It makes you SMARTER! Announcements!
