  1. TWP-ICE Surface Radiation Measurements Chuck Long MAJOR kudos to: Brad Atkinson, Anthony Noonan Nigel Tapper, Ian McHugh and crew Mike and Jerimiah Reynolds

  2. Location of surface radiation sites

  3. What, where, when… 1-minute data available.

  4. Wanted: Clear Skies!!! • SW - 160O FOV • LW – “effective” • High, cold cirrus OK

  5. Flux Analysis • With LWdn • Continuous estimated clear-sky LWdn • LW cloud effect (clear-measured LW) • LW “effective” sky cover (low and mid) • LW cloud field radiating temperature • With SWdn total and diffuse • Identified clear-sky periods • Continuous estimated clear-sky SWdn • SW cloud effect (clear-measured SW) • Total sky cover • For overcast, effective vis optical depth

  6. Flux Analysis • With upwelling SW and LW • Continuous estimated clear-sky upwelling SW & LW • Upwelling cloud effect • Complete surface radiative cloud forcing

  7. It was a dark and stormy…Day! Jan. 16, 2006 Cape Don Garden Point
