  1. The Perfect Storm: its plot structure and stylistic devices. Yakubovsky Georgeschool 399

  2. The main aim: To investigate the author’s speech and stylistic devices of the book by Sebastian Junger “The Perfect Storm” The tasks we put before us in our scientific work are:1) To investigate the construction of the novel2) To investigate the speech used in this book3) To reveal special features of author’s narration.

  3. The novelity and actuality : S. Junger is our contemporary and he describes the action and events of present days. The book “The Perfect Storm” appeared in shops recently. We think that it is really interesting to research such kinds of books and to understand the condition of modern foreign literature.

  4. Sebastian Junger is an American writer, journalist and traveler. He was born on January 17th 1963 in Belmont in the state of Massachusetts. Sebastian Junger is famous for his best-selling books. The most famous books are The Perfect Storm, A death in Belmont and Fire. In 1991, Sebastian Junger was living in Gloucester, a small town on the coast of Massachusetts.

  5. The phrase “a perfect storm” is used by meteorologists. When they talk about a perfect storm, they don’t mean that the storm is a very good storm. They mean the opposite of that-they mean that the storm couldn’t be any worse. Fortunately, this kind of storm is very unusual. A perfect storm happens maybe only once in a hundred years.

  6. The book “The Perfect Storm” was published in the U.S. in 1997 and it became an international best seller. In 1997, with the publication of this book, he was touted as a new Hemingway. This is a true story about a terrible storm. The storm happened at the end of October 1991.The storm badly damaged several boats and their equipment too. The book follows the lives of the sword fishing crew of the Andrea Gail and their family members before and during the Perfect Storm.

  7. Nature always takes a special place in books of all types. For many years a man has been trying to resist a nature. The book “The Perfect Storm” gives us a full picture of a cruel battle between them. Fishermen live near the sea, the sea gives them food, it lets people live. The sea is not going to give something without payment for it. Sometimes it demands something serious and really important. It demands people’s lives.

  8. There are some features of the right structure: 1)The structure of the novel should be logical. -The fishermen before their last trip -The fishermen in the sea before the storm -People and nature after the storm 2)The strength of the construction is achieved by accurately chosen problem. 3) Some people compares the writer’s work with the work of architecture.

  9. Symbol The Crow’s Nestbar - nest

  10. The Ocean:- calm, blue, light wind- dark, cold, gray ocean; the waves were getting larger and stronger

  11. Expressive means: - Epithets: beautiful and romantic sea, an incredible Hurricane, the storm’s enormous power, mountainous waves. - An oxymoron: The Perfect Storm • Alliteration Michael Moran, Christina Cotter, Bob Brown • Ellipsis I really don’t want to go on a trip. I really don’t want to go… • Personification Three powerfull weather systems are going to collide. They are going to hit each other. • A simile The result will be like a huge bomb exploding out at sea.

  12. - rescue raft, - neoprene suit, - frozen pizza, - coloured TV

  13. The main part of my work consists of following items: -“The main idea and the plot of the story” - “The construction of the novel” The novel “The Perfect Storm” consists of three main parts All the parts are placed correctly and the author has chosen all the necessary information and excluded all the useless things. -“Expressive means of the novel” in order to achieve a great expression from the book, Sebastian Junger uses a lot of stylistic devices.(epithets, oxymoron, simile, personification, ellipses, alliteration.) The author shows the reader that the action takes place in modern world with the help of using some words. ( TV, pizza, etc)
