Peer Review Guidelines: Constructive Criticism for Effective Obituary Writing
This document outlines essential peer review guidelines tailored for reviewing obituaries. It emphasizes the importance of being a supportive colleague while providing constructive criticism. Reviewers are encouraged to evaluate submissions for meaning, development, organization, language use, and adherence to conventions. Key considerations include assessing whether the piece reads like an obituary, contains the appropriate details, follows a logical sequence, and maintains a suitable tone. Additionally, reviewers should provide written comments and suggestions for improvement and discuss their insights verbally post-review.

Peer Review Guidelines Rules of the Trade
Be a colleague, not a friend. Flattery is nice, but constructive criticism is better.
EVALUATE piece(s) for meaning, development, organization, language use, and conventions. Does it look, feel and/or read like an obit? Does it contain not only enough detail, but the right details? Is the information sequenced appropriately? Is the language fitting for an obit? Is the obit cleanly composed?
ON THE DRAFT, write comments and questions; suggest additions and/or omissions.
VERBALIZE all comments, questions, and suggestions after the read.
