Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) • EPP means “products or services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products or services that serve the same purpose.” • EPP is one of over 70 programs in the city's Sustainability Report • phoenix.gov/Sustainability/summary.html

  4. Why Use EPP Products? • Recycled Aluminum Cans: • 95% less energy than virgin cans • Energy Star Computers & Monitors: • Purchasing over 3,000 energy efficient computers reduced greenhouse gases equivalent to removing 168 cars (2007 Green Electronics Champion) • Less Toxic Cleaning Products: • Reduces health risks to janitorial staff and building occupants while protecting the environment.

  5. EPP Products Include: • Recycled content products (e.g. recycled plastic furniture, carpet) • Energy conserving products such as fluorescent lights • Less toxic products, such as cleaners • Bio-based products, such as inks

EPP Resolution 20519 • Approved July 2, 2007 • Integrate new contract provisions for more sustainable products and services • Consider price, performance and environmental effects over lifecycle • Support manufacturers and vendors with green products • Encourage other buyers and consumers to adopt EPP
