  1. THE FLOWER OF THE FERN

  2. Once upon a time there was a boy who lived in a small village. His name was Jack.

  3. One day he was sitting with other village people and was listening to the story told by the old woman. She was telling about the flower of the fern.

  4. The flower of the fern grows only during the shortest night of the year – St. John’s night. It was said that only young people who had a good heart were able to pick it.

  5. Jack decided to find the flower. When the time came he went to the forest. It was very dark and the trees looked like hiding the way. Jack did not give up. Finally he found a little gold flower.

  6. He grasped it and then he heard the voice: „You picked me so from now on whatever you dream on will come true, but remember, you cannot share your happiness with anyone!”

  7. The boy hid the flower and went back home. He saw a carriage drown by beautiful horses. He got in and was taken to the huge palace where lots of servants were waiting for him.

  8. Jack grew up living on his own in the palace, sharing his happiness and money with noone. As the time went by he became tired of having everything.

  9. He decided to visit his home. Whenhearrivedhesawhowpoor his family was. His motherdid not recognizehim. He thoughtaboutgivinghersomemoney but gotscared of loosing his treasures.

  10. So he drove away. Next year he decided to visit his family again. This time his younger brother opened the door. He also did not recognize Jack. He said his father died and mother was very ill. The family was dying because there was no food.

  11. Jack wanted to give them some money but got scared of loosing his treasures again, so he drove away.

  12. Next year he visited them again, but there was noone who opened the door. An old beggar told Jack that everybody in this house died of starvation.

  13. Jack cried and did not want his flower of the fern anymore. He said: „They died, and I did not help them! Then I want to die as well!”

  14. The ground opened and Jack dissapeared and the flower of the fern vanished with him. So now nobody can find this malefic flower anymore.
