  4. Clear Targets • I can understand and apply new information about the CCSSM • I can contribute to the table-talk discussion of upcoming units in our 8th grade pacing guide • I can commit to [at least] three new strategies or ideas for the upcoming units 3, 4, & 5

  6. MP +CAF+Standards=Instruction In order to design instruction that meets the rigor and expectations of the CCSSM, understanding the Mathematical Practices and Critical Areas (of Focus) are essential.

  7. Critical Areas of Focus Critical Areas of Focus inform instruction by describing the mathematical connections and relationships students develop in the progression at this point.

  8. Grade 8- Three Critical Areas of 1. Formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including modeling an association in bivariate data with a linear equation, and solving linear equations and systems of linear equations 2. Grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships 3. Analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem.

  9. First comes…. Performance Tasks in the Classroom then….. Constructed Response Assessments (CRA)

  10. Let’s take a breakonline stopwatch

  11. Machinists’ Wages

  12. Constructed Response Assessments

  13. Sharing Ideas and Strategies Research identifies insurmountable success of those who take part in collective learning. The key is to accept input from colleagues while developing new strategies, facilitating new lesson ideas, and envisioning the new possibilities(Marshall, 2012).

  14. Table Talk & Group Share-Out Each member of the group will share his/her lesson or strategy, noting the standard(s) being addressed. Give hard copies to all those at your table. Choose the person from your table who will share their terrific idea with the large group. At 2:05– Each selected table member will share their idea with the large group. *at this time, distribute your copies to the remaining teachers

  16. Next TimeOctober 29, 2012We will meet in the Board Room at the Central office Start thinking about strategies and/or lessons with which your students have experienced success from the following units: Unit 6 - Angles Unit 7 – Right Triangles in Algebra • Remember to bring copies for everyone • Bring your laptop and power cord
