  1. TIARA-FAM Final Annual Meeting R. Aleksan Nov. 25th, 2013 http://www.eu-tiara.eu • Meeting Objectives • General Information • Deliverables/milestones • Conclusion Test Infrastructure and Accelerator Research Area

  2. Thanks! Heartily thanks to Prof. SwapanChattopadhyay Director CI and Prof. Susan Smith Director ASTeC and Prof. Peter McIntosh Deputy Director ASTeC for hosting TIARA

  3. Meeting Objectives Main objectives • Provide general information on TIARA • Review and Finalize the Work • Deliverables, Achievements and Highlights • Prepare the TIARA Final Report • Exchange our views on how to strengthen further accelerator R&D in Europe • Define the Strategy and Prepare the work for Implementing TIARA

  4. FAM Agenda LabVisit: Todayat 16:30

  5. Milestones TIARA generalactivities • TIARA-Industry workshop : past June 17-19 in Uppsala Other information • Result of consultation very positive as infrastructure for AS&T is identified by the EC as a priority item for IA (ranked A) • Finalization of the H2020 work programme 2014-2015, • first call publication end 2013 Estimated Work programme 2014-2015 Budget: ~580 M€

  6. Horizon 2020: INFRADEV calls Developing new world-class research infrastructures Expected publication date 11 Dec. 2013

  7. Work Status The 4 TechnicalWPs in good shape • WP6: SVET • Very low emittance achieved at SLS <1pm (world record) • Improved diagnostics being installed a even better ey • WP7: ICTF • Nominal RF amplifier power reached (2MW) @Daresbury • Being installed in ICTF hall @RAL for MICE operation • New DiacrodeAmplifier developed and tested successfully at Los Alamos (3 MW) b Excellent Infrastructure showcase Final WP Reports need to bedone • WP8: HGA • 2 New C-Band structures successfully constructed • Being installed for high power tests on SPARC @LNF • WP9: TIHPAC • Design of Multi-MW test Irradiation Facility completed • Design of the versatile SC Cavity test Cryostat close to completion

  8. Work Status Organizational 4 WPs • WP3: Infrastructures • Survey and RI database established • Finalization of the list of Infrastructures being part of TIARA • Needs vs resources comparison and upgrades/ construction of new RI being finalized b Excellent studies highlighting TIARA potential to strengthen Accel. R&D Final WP Reports need to be done • WP4: R&D programme • Key Accel. Research Area and Key Tech. Issues been identified • Final plan of the collaborative R&D Programme being finalized bb • WP5: Education and Training • E&T Survey and resource database established • Survey of Needs for Accel. Scientists done • Recommendations for promoting Accel. Science and Tech. in Europe done • WP2: Governance • Legal statutes of TIARA are being drafted

  9. Milestones 2 Milestonesmissing

  10. Deliverables 15 deliverablesneeded (out of which 9 are late) I am trustful that a large majority will come by the end but a few need careful attention

  11. Deliverables 6

  12. Documentation 60 documents so far in database Note : Acknowledgements of the EC have to beincluded in all TIARA documents Particularly important for conferencepapers and publications Anyconferencepapers and/or publications foreseen?

  13. Communication, Dissemination and Outreach • Many successful activities on CD&O • TIARA Website • Databases (infrastructure, education and training) • Newsletter (with growing subscribers) • Brochure and “Accelerator for Society” website (increasing consultations) • Workshops with industry • … … and also advertising material Important to use them to promote TIARA

  14. FCC (TLEP/VHE-LHC) RecommendationsfromEuropeanStrategy Group High-priority large-scalescientificactivities Recommendation #2 d) To stay at the forefront of particle physics, Europe needs to be in a position to propose an ambitious post-LHC accelerator project at CERN by the time of the next Strategy update, when physics results from the LHC running at 14 TeV will be available. CERN should undertake design studies for accelerator projects in a global context, with emphasis on proton-proton and electron-positron high-energy frontier machines. These design studies should be coupled to a vigorous accelerator R&D programme, including high-field magnets and high-gradient accelerating structures, in collaboration with national institutes, laboratories and universities worldwide.

  15. Conclusions The objectives of TIARA are very ambitious and challenging Overall Work is progressing very well, but there is still a lot to do for this endeavor to be successful The last 2 months are vital as we have to come to a concrete proposal for implementation TIARA willstrengthenfurther Accelerator science; a powerful meantoward scientific, technical and industrial breakthroughs…
