Some Aspects of Korea • 50mil Population (25), 100 thousand㎢ territory (110) • 1,156 bil US$ GDP (15), 23 thousand US$ GDP per capita • Dependence of Energy on Overseas 96% (www.kosis.kr) • Degree of dependence on foreign trade • 99.8% dependency on shipping for Trade • Strong Shipbuilding and Shipping industry

Interests in the Arctic • Enhance national profile through contributing to and participating in the global matters • Climate change and frequent extreme weather pattern in the Korean Peninsular : to study the Arctic and it’s relation with earth system and the Eastern Asia • Korea’s long-lasting interests in the ocean affairs • - Shipping: Northern Sea Route • - Shipping Building • - Seamen • - Offshore engineering, etc • Sustainable development of natural resources in the Arctic • Scientists’ interests in Arctic Sciences (IASC, FARO, PAG, IPA, etc)
