The content of today’s workshop • Our school blog – www.stpetersbrayblog.com • Focus on the use of audio, video and graphics • Blogging for parents • Using online aids in guiding and advising parents • Giving it a go • Setting up your own blog to deliver an extraordinary message in plain language
1.1 How we blog • Short, snappy posts • Visual • Heavy use of sound and video • Comments are encouraged • Finishing a post with a question • Alternating between posts from children and more formal posts written by teachers
2.1 Literacy and Numeracy • Useful sites to help your parents do what you do, in their way • See packs as distributed • e.g. http://www.ncca.ie/en/Curriculum_and_Assessment/Parents/ “Never assume knowledge; never accept ignorance.”
2.2 Wednesday for Parents • Examples of ‘Wednesday for Parents’ posts: • Fire safety • Online safety • Maths for fun • Exploring the news with your child • Finally, and most importantly, reading and writing “The list is endless: fit your model to suit your parents. Give them the tools to facilitate informal learning in the home.”
3.3 What you should try to achieve • Give them nothing a child couldn’t recreate • Learning in the delivery • Once established, interact with other bodies • Emphasise the positive use of social media • Adapting other social media platforms into your blog • Twitter (#edchatie)
