OBJECTIVE • Create a device that will allow wheelchair users access to health care devices. • Specifically, the device must be able to vertically translate and rotate the patient and wheelchair.
Existing Competition • There is no comparable device on the market. • Closest examples are designed strictly for lifting, do not posses rotational capabilities, and are bulky.
Device Specifications • Final weight 350 lbs. • Designed to support 500 lbs. • Elevate from minimum height (3”) to maximum height (9”) in 7 seconds. • Rotate 360° in 15 seconds.
Desired Characteristics • Transportable. • Battery powered. • Easily maintained and cleaned. • Safe and comfortable for patients and clinicians. • Applicable in multiple heath care settings. • Quiet.
Safety Specifications • Ramp dimensions. • 2” railing on all sides. • Safety belt holding wheelchair in place. • Powerless retraction to minimum height if necessary.
Market Expectations • Expected clientele: • Hospitals. • Dentists. • Individual Clinics. • Advantages in the market: • Limited, indirect competition. • Expected product life of 5 years. • Simple to use, easy to store.
The Market • The deciding factor: Money • Need to prove that the device has an economic right to exist. • Insurance savings. • Alternative • Lobby, make the device a requirement.
Future Work • Streamline Design: • Reduce total weight without sacrificing strength. • Improve overall versatility of design. • Aesthetically pleasing. • Patent Application
