Pre-professional Requirements According to the Physical therapy practice act rules applicants for a pre-professional program are required to first complete college level credits in these areas: Humanities Social Sciences Liberal Sciences Biological Sciences Behavioral Sciences Mathematics or Advanced First Aid for Health Care Workers

  3. Examination Requirements To Take the National Physical therapy examination ( NPTE) applicant must have completed education requirements or be enrolled in the final semester of CAPTE accredited program Pass all Questions on the Open Book, take home Utah Physical Therapy Law and Rule Examination Pass the National Physical therapy Examination with a Passing score

  4. Description of Licensure Examination • Computerized test made up of 200 multiple-choice questions divided in to four sections. • 50 questions are used to test for reliability and validity. • A scaled score of 600 is required to pass. To prepare for the National Physical therapy examination use text books and other information from variety of sources. It can be helpful to do practice examinations on a computerized system to get familiar with the style of testing.

  5. Renewal Procedures and Continuing Education • Renewal Date is Every Two Years • PTA is Required to Complete 20 Contact Hours of Continuing Education • Three Contact hours Mustbe completed in Ethics and Law PT/PTA ethics and Law Courses • Patient/ PT relationships • Confidentiality • Charging and coding • Compliance with state or federal laws that impact PT/PTA practice • APTA code or guide for professional conduct

  7. Licensure Requirements for Physical Therapist Assistant in the state of Utah Graduate from a CAPTE accredited Physical therapist Assistant program Pass National PTA exam Pass ethical exam Read and Review State of Utah Physical Therapist Practice Act and Rules. www.dopl.utah.gov
