### ICBS-R Project

Warehouse Zone and Locations

Numbering Aid

Terminology refresher
• A zoneclassifies a set of locations with common properties
• Zonescan have both tasks and locations ascribed to them
• A location is the physical location where inventory is stored
• A location is always associated with a cache and a zone within the cache
• It has attributes like aisle number, bay number, level number and bin number
• Locations also have a capacity as measured in inches (H x W x D)
Location capacity size codes
• Location capacity size codes will be assigned an alphabetic code according to different volume capacities measured in cubic inches (Length x Width x Height)
• Location capacity size codes will be determined at each cache to match the existing location and storage configurement.

10 x 6.5 x 7 inches = 1/4 Bin = A code

28 x 24 x 4 inches = ½ Bin = B code

28 x 24 x 10 inches = Bin = C code

24 x 24 x 24 inches = ½ Pallet = D code

48 x 48 x 48 inches = Pallet = E code

48 x 48 x 96 inches = 2 Pallet High = F code

48 x 96 x 48 inches = 2 Pallet Wide = G code

96 x 96 x 48 inches = 4 Pallet = H code

48 x 48 x 192 inches = 4 Pallet High = I code

Storage location numbering
• Location numbers (in storage and forward pick zones) designate the Aisle, Bay, Level and Bin or the mnemonic ABLB
• Example: 09030209

- Aisle 09

• Bay 03
• Level 02

- Bin 09

Bulk zones
• Bulk zones won’t necessarily have bay, level, and bin associated with them.

Bulk zones with many pallets should be given row numbers.

• Example: B1-01, B1-02, B1-03
Other locations
• For other locations, the location numbering scheme is defined based on the particular needs of the zone
• For example:
• SHIP-SORT 01, SHIP-SORT 02
• RETURN-1
Wrap-up

Many enterprises have used this tool successfully for several years

We will learn more on how to best use its capabilities as we implement it at each cache
