  1. = Lame! This isn’t a book report!!! Need to be much more specific. How to write a research question? I want to write about the Growth of Organized Crime Al Capone I want to write about Prohibition… Capone’s corruption of politics Al Capone’s effect on the 1927 Chicago mayoral race

  2. Sample Question: Ok, now what? How are you going to answer that? What sub-topics will you analyze? To what extent did Al Capone’s reign of terror affect the 1927 Chicago mayoral race? Campaign contributions (legal/illegal) Statements of public outrage/support Voter turnout

  3. Now that you have your question and have identified your sub-topics: 1) what sources of evidence will you look for and 2) how will you use them to answer your question (method)? Records of campaign contributions (legal/illegal) will be analyzed to assess if Capone contributed to either candidate. Local newspaper editorials will be assessed to determine how much public outrage/support there was focused on organized crime. Records of voter turnout will be compared from before/after Capone’s reign of terror to determine if voter suppression occurred. To what extent did Al Capone’s reign of terror affect the 1927 Chicago mayoral race?
