Advantages of Nuclear • Nuclear power costs about the same as coal, so it's not expensive to make. • Does not produce smoke or carbon dioxide, so it does not contribute to the greenhouse effect. • Produces huge amounts of energy from small amounts of fuel. • Produces small amounts of waste. • Nuclear power is reliable. • Safety is job #1

Comparing Fuel Sources • The amount of energy produced by one fuel pellet is equal to……. - One ton of coal; or - 149 gallons of oil; or - 17,000 cubic feet of natural gas Cost of production is 1.8 cents for nuclear….coal is 2.1 cents and gas is 3.5 cents…. cost rises with new capital construction

What about the future? • Conservation will not be enough to meet demand • Nation needs a mix of different sources of energy to produce electricity (we should not limit our options to just one source) • Nuclear fuel is inexpensive compared to the energy we get from it • Decisions should be made to protect the environment, and still be able to enjoy the benefits of electricity.
