  3. Objectives • Improve quality of Math Fair projects • No biographies or games • More than just a “report” • Increase interest in Math • Prepare students for higher learning • Data collection • Analysis

  4. Methodology • Combine Math and Science Fairs • Students appreciate choice • Less disruption to school year • Increased preparation time leading up to fair

  5. Methodology • Create a strong rubric • Adapted from District science fair • Clarifies expectations for students • Makes judging / grading as objective as possible • 21 categories totaling 109 points

  7. Methodology • Advising • For most students it was not obvious how to turn an interest into a project • Sample math projects • NFL quarterback ratings • Teen cell phone usage • Crocheting • Electoral system

  8. Expected Outcomes • Improved Math Fair projects • Substantial evidence that this will occur • Increase interest in Math • Demonstrate that math is everywhere! • Math and interesting things can go together. • Gain valuable science and math skills • Scientific approach • Analysis
