  12. RTI scheme Started 1998 on Measure 1 project for new range of patented Down-the-hole hammers 2001 project to develop another hammer not in range 2002 to 2004 R&D capability project which included new improved range of hammers and process development From 1998 to 2001 R&D carried out in existing production facility 2002 set up dedicated R&D unit which includes machines for prototyping. 4 personnel employed full time in unit

  13. RTI Experience Application process/paperwork complex & time consuming Commercial & Technical assessment straightforward and helpful Excellent help from Development Advisors in both application and implementation stages Implementation of projects was always seen as uppermost in the development of the Company Some pitfalls when Production and R&D requirements clash

  14. RTI Experience • In excess of 80% of turnover from products developed through RTI • Turnover grown from €2.7million in 1999 to €12million in 2006 as a direct result of products developed under RTI • Profile of Mincon in the market place changed dramatically • R&D would have happened in Mincon without RTI but at much slower pace

  15. Current R&D Collaboration with WIT and DCU. Enterprise Ireland assistance All other R&D in-house, self funded
